Job summary

A&O Shearman in Belfast is seeking a Management Accountant to join the Financial Control team. Based in our Belfast office, you will support monthly management accounting for UK offices, review P&L and balance sheet, and ensure timetables are met.

You will perform balance sheet reconciliations, prepare variance analysis, assist budgeting and forecasting, maintain control policies, and support audit processes with clear, concise reporting to non-finance stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Qualified professional with strong accounting skills and UK GAAP knowledge.
• Experience delivering management accounts and financial reporting.
• Ability to analyse and explain variances and movements.
• Strong time management and ability to meet deadlines.
• Stakeholder communication and advisory capabilities.
• Self-motivated with proactive problem-solving.

Responsibilities

• Support monthly management accounting for UK offices including P&L and balance sheet review to timetables.
• Post journals, review costs, and ensure balances are supported and explained.
• Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and investigate movements.
• Prepare monthly variance analysis and explain key drivers for sign-off.
• Assist budgeting and forecasting with quality assumptions and data.
• Maintain strong financial controls and update forecasting systems.
• Contribute to audit processes with audit-ready schedules and data.
• Identify process improvements to boost efficiency and data quality.
