Job summary

A&O Shearman Belfast is strengthening its Corporate team and seeking Associates with a strong background in corporate and commercial law. The role focuses on high-profile M&A, private equity, and large-scale reorganisations, supporting across our global network.

You will build relationships with Partners and Associates, provide detailed legal analysis, draft and refine documentation, and work with Legal Tech initiatives to optimize workflows.

Qualifications

• Strong technical corporate experience including due diligence, reorganisations, and commercial contract negotiation.
• Experience in a US, City, or major regional law firm preferred.
• Experience coordinating complex multi-faceted matters, including multi-jurisdictional or multi-specialist matters.
• Excellent judgement, commercial awareness and high levels of professional conduct.
• Strong relationship-building skills and ability to work with senior colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Develop working relationships with Partners and Associates across offices to support on transactions and corporate matters.
• Provide legal expertise: issue spotting, drafting, reviewing, and amending documentation, and legal research.
• Collaborate with Legal Process Improvement and Legal Tech teams to implement efficient solutions.
• Manage and liaise with clients, addressing queries and reporting progress.
• Supervise and mentor Legal Professionals, ensuring high-quality outputs and on-time delivery.
• Educate teammates on commercial and legal details and quality-check work.
