Job summary

GSL Education are currently recruiting a compassionate Behaviour Teaching Assistant to work in a York specialist educational setting. You will provide classroom-based, one-to-one and small-group support for students with SEMH and behavioural needs, using positive behaviour management strategies.

The role focuses on helping learners engage, build resilience and confidence, and collaborate with staff to create an inclusive learning environment. A strong commitment to safeguarding is essential.

Qualifications

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support for students with behavioural and emotional needs
  • Promote positive behaviour and support students to engage successfully in learning activities
  • Implement behaviour support plans and intervention strategies in collaboration with teaching staff
  • Assist teachers in creating a calm, structured, and inclusive classroom environment
  • Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records of behaviour and interventions
  • Build positive relationships that encourage confidence, resilience, and personal development

Job Title: Behaviour Teaching Assistant
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract Type: Temporary, Supply, Full-Time
Start Date: September 2026
Salary Scale: £92 - £115 per day (Depending on experience)

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a compassionate, resilient, and proactive Behaviour Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist educational setting in York.

This is a rewarding opportunity for individuals who are passionate about supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and behavioural challenges. Working alongside teachers and support staff, you will help students develop positive behaviours, improve engagement, and build the confidence they need to achieve their full potential.

About the Role:

As a Behaviour Teaching Assistant, you will provide classroom-based, one-to-one, and small-group support for students who require additional behavioural and emotional guidance. You will use positive behaviour management strategies to encourage engagement, resilience, and independence while helping to create a safe and inclusive learning environment.

As the Ideal Behaviour Teaching Assistant, You Should Have:
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, behavioural, or additional learning needs
  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills
  • A patient, calm, and resilient approach to supporting learners
  • Ability to build positive relationships and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to adapt to challenging situations
  • A genuine commitment to helping young people overcome barriers to learning and succeed
To Work with GSL Education, You Must:
  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
  • Have recent experience working with children or young people in an educational or support setting
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
