Job summary

Empowering Learning in Leeds is seeking Behaviour Support Workers and Teaching Assistants to help in classrooms on a 1:1 basis or in small groups. Roles start in September and are temporary with the potential to become permanent.

The school caters to primary and secondary pupils, supporting children with autism, challenging behaviours and communication needs. You will assist in classroom duties and off-site recreational activities to foster inclusion.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children, including those with special needs and challenging behaviours.
  • Knowledge of special education practices and strategies.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude towards working with children.
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations and handle challenging behaviours.
  • Knowledge of toddler care and development is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the lead teacher in implementing educational programs and activities for students.
  • Provide support to students with special needs, including those with autism.
  • Assist in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Help students with daily tasks, such as personal care and hygiene.
  • Support students in their academic and social development.
  • Collaborate with the lead teacher to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to the lead teacher.
  • Assist with classroom management and behaviour management strategies.
