Job summary

Protocol Education are recruiting for a Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH school in Gateshead from September. You will work with pupils who may have faced difficulties in mainstream education, helping them manage behaviour, regulate emotions and feel more confident in school.

This role will suit someone who is resilient, patient and confident, with empathy and strong relationship-building skills.

Qualifications

• Experience with SEMH or SEND is preferred.
• Background in PRUs or alternative provision is advantageous.
• Ability to work 1:1 or in small groups.
• Willingness to undertake safeguarding training.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support.
• Support pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs.
• Help pupils understand emotions and behaviours.
• Support emotional regulation.
• Recognise triggers and implement strategies for positive behaviour.
• Encourage independence and positive social interaction.
• Assist pupils in returning to learning after dysregulation.
• Maintain clear and consistent boundaries.
• Build strong professional relationships with staff and pupils.
• Support classroom activities and collaborate with teachers.

Hours: 8:30am–4:30pm
Pay: £98–£120 per day, dependent on experience

Protocol Education are recruiting for a Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH school in Gateshead from September.

You’ll work closely with pupils who may have experienced difficulties within mainstream education, helping them to manage their behaviour, regulate their emotions and feel more confident within an educational environment.

This would suit someone who is resilient, consistent and confident, but who also understands the importance of empathy and patience.

Your Day Could Include

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support.
• Supporting pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs.
• Helping pupils understand their emotions and behaviours.
• Supporting emotional regulation.
• Recognising triggers and putting appropriate strategies in place.
• Encouraging positive behaviour.
• Helping pupils return to learning following periods of dysregulation.
• Maintaining clear and consistent boundaries.
• Building strong professional relationships.
• Supporting classroom activities.
• Working with teachers and other members of staff.
• Supporting pupils at break and lunchtime.
• Encouraging independence and positive social interaction.

You Might Have Experience In

• Sports coaching.
• Community work.

School experience isn't essential if you can demonstrate the resilience, patience and relationship-building skills needed for the role.
