Job summary

Protocol Education Ltd is seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Gateshead from September. You will support pupils 1:1 and in small groups, focusing on SEMH and behavioural needs, helping them recognise emotions and stay engaged in learning.

The role requires patience, calmness under pressure, and the ability to build positive relationships. In return, you'll receive £98–£120 per day, weekly PAYE pay, and access to CPD and behaviour training, with long-term

SEMH Teaching Assistant | Gateshead

£98–£120 per day | Full Time | September 2026 Start

Are you the person who stays calm when everyone else is losing their head?

We’re looking for a SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Gateshead from September.

This isn't your typical classroom TA role.

You'll be supporting young people who may have struggled in mainstream education and who need adults around them who are patient, consistent and willing to see the person behind the behaviour.

Some days will be challenging. Some days will be incredibly rewarding. And sometimes, a small breakthrough can be the biggest achievement of the day.

What You'll Be Doing

• Working 1:1 and with small groups.


• Supporting pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs.


• Developing positive relationships with pupils.


• Helping young people recognise and manage their emotions.


• Supporting pupils when they become dysregulated.


• Using positive behaviour strategies.
