Justteachers Ltd. are partnering with a nurturing SEMH school in King’s Lynn to recruit a dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant for a full-time role from September. The position starts on supply with a view to permanence after a successful trial.

You will support pupils with SEMH needs, helping them engage with learning and build positive relationships in a caring, structured environment. Experience in education or youth work, plus strong behaviour management, are highly valued.

Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent behaviour and emotional support to pupils with SEMH needs throughout the school day.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships that promote confidence, resilience, and engagement.
  • Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and the SENCO to implement individual behaviour support strategies.
  • Support pupils in accessing learning activities both within the classroom and in small-group or one-to-one settings.
  • Promote positive behaviour through de-escalation techniques and restorative approaches.
  • Encourage the development of social, emotional, and communication skills.
  • Support pupils during transitions, breaktimes, and other less structured parts of the school day where required.
  • Adapt approaches to meet individual learning, behavioural, and emotional needs.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff on behavior, engagement, and wellbeing.
  • Help create a safe, calm, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Promote safeguarding and pupil welfare at all times.

About the role:

justteachers are working in partnership with a supportive and nurturing SEMH school in King’s Lynn that is seeking a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Support Assistant to join their team on a full-time basis from September.

This role will begin on a supply basis, providing an excellent opportunity for both the candidate and the school to ensure the role is the right fit, with the intention of offering a permanent position following a successful trial period.

This rewarding opportunity is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The successful candidate will work closely with pupils who require additional behavioural and emotional support, helping them to engage in learning, develop positive relationships, and achieve their full potential within a structured and caring environment.

The school is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and therapeutic setting where every pupil is supported to overcome barriers to learning. This role would suit an experienced Behaviour Support Assistant, Teaching Assistant, Learning Mentor, or someone with relevant experience working with children or young people with additional needs.

Pre-requisites:
  • Previous experience working with children or young people within an educational, care, youth work, or support setting
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEMH, behavioural needs, Autism, ADHD, or other additional needs is highly desirable
  • A Teaching Assistant qualification or relevant support qualification is advantageous but not essential
  • Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • The ability to build positive professional relationships with pupils, colleagues, and parents/carers
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
