Job summary

Academics is seeking a dedicated Behaviour Mentor for a specialist school in Chelmsford. You will work with children and young people who face barriers to learning due to trauma, behavioural challenges, or SEN, providing patient support and steady guidance to help them engage with education.

You will build trust with pupils, support emotional wellbeing, and collaborate with teachers and therapists to create personalised strategies that unlock each learner's potential in a safe, nurturing

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or young people with behavioural needs, SEMH, autism, ADHD or trauma.
  • Calm under pressure and excellent communication to build relationships.
  • Experience in education, youth work, care, coaching or support work is welcomed; a genuine passion for supporting young people.

Responsibilities

This Behaviour Mentor role is based in a specialist school in Chelmsford that supports children and young people who are unable to access mainstream education due to trauma, behavioural challenges, or SEN.   • Work closely with pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups to build trusting relationships that encourage engagement, confidence, and emotional wellbeing.
  • Support students in developing positive behaviours, managing their emotions, and accessing learning in a safe, structured, and nurturing environment.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and support staff to create personalised strategies that help pupils overcome barriers to education and reach their full potential.
Qualifications
  • Experience working with children or young people, particularly those with behavioural needs, SEMH, autism, ADHD, trauma, or other additional needs.
  • Calm under pressure and an excellent communicator able to build positive relationships with both students and colleagues.
  • Experience in education, youth work, care, coaching, or support work is welcomed; a genuine passion for supporting young people is equally important.
