The Portsmouth Academy seeks a dedicated Behaviour and Pastoral Officer to join our Patrol Team. You will promote positive values and visible presence to create a calm, respectful environment where students can reach their full potential.

The role focuses on supporting students with behaviour, building relationships, and providing targeted interventions. We value safeguarding, student wellbeing, and empathetic, proactive support.

Qualifications

• Experience of working with children or young people in educational or support settings.
• Experience handling challenging behaviour and using de-escalation techniques.
• Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and child protection.
• Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with students, staff, parents and external agencies.
• Empathetic, calm, non-judgemental approach under pressure.
• Ability to use ICT systems, including Microsoft Office 365.
• Commitment to modelling school values and contributing to academy life.

Responsibilities

• Support students whose behaviour does not meet expectations with appropriate follow-up.
• Build positive relationships through relational practice to strengthen community and empathy.
• Provide targeted intervention strategies to remove barriers to learning.
• Support students facing difficulties at school or home and ensure they receive help.
• Act as a mentor for students underachieving against targets.
• Contribute to safeguarding and student wellbeing culture.

As a key member of our Patrol Team, you will promote positive values, attitudes and good student behaviour across the school, while maintaining a strong and visible presence around the site. Your work will help create a calm, predictable and respectful environment where students can achieve their full potential. The role focuses on:

• Supporting students whose behaviour does not meet expectations and ensuring appropriate follow-up takes place
• Building positive relationships through relational practice to strengthen community and empathy
• Providing targeted intervention strategies to remove barriers to learning
• Supporting students experiencing difficulties at school or at home, ensuring they receive the help they need
• Acting as a mentor for students who are underachieving in relation to their targets
• Contributing to a strong culture of safeguarding and student wellbeing

• Previous experience working with children or young people in an educational, care or support setting
