Job summary

Northumbria Police is offering an Emergency Contact Handler Apprenticeship (30 hours) starting January 2027. Training is structured, with a 9-week classroom phase and mentoring, moving to Cobalt in 2027.

The role involves handling 999/101 calls, collecting data, and using police IT systems to support frontline officers. You will work varied shifts, with potential earnings including an uplift through allowances.

Qualifications

• No formal qualifications are required, but typing, listening and written communication are assessed.
• Applicants must be 18+ on the programme start date.
• An assessment of typing, listening and written communication will form part of the selection.
• Ability to access and understand information across police IT systems is required.

Responsibilities

• Greet callers and gather information with clear, professional communication.
• Input data accurately into police IT systems and databases.
• Assess urgency and vulnerability to respond to emergencies effectively.
• Handle 999/101 calls and digital platform inquiries with composure.
