Job summary

Hertfordshire Students' Union is seeking a Bar Manager for Elehouse on College Lane Campus, Hatfield. You will lead the licensed venue, supervise student staff, liaise with contractors, and maintain high service standards at all times.

Responsibilities include duty managing daily operations, leading bar service, recruiting and training staff, stock control, and coordinating events and social media communications.

Qualifications

• Co-ordinate and deliver the licensed Elehouse venue to the required standards in line with commercial objectives.
• Uphold licensing objectives and relevant legislation for the venue.
• Deliver an exceptional level of service to all users of the Elehouse.

Responsibilities

• Make the venue a safe, welcoming and fun social venue for all students and staff to enjoy.
• Duty manage the venue every day it is open supporting our student staff team.
• Operate and lead the bar function with high levels of customer service and efficiency, monitoring and enforcing high standards for all staff.
• Work between serving customers and ensuring back-of-house processes and operations are adhered to for efficient running of the venue.
• Lead on recruitment, training and ongoing support of part-time and contracted staff; identify development needs.
• Identify high performers for recognition and address underperformance with training needs.
• Create a leadership culture to encourage accountability at all levels.
• Oversee stock management (orders, line checks, stock audits, POS) and deliveries.
• Involvement in product research, pricing and promotions to maximise profitability.
• Ensure health & safety, food hygiene and relevant policies are followed; report incidents.
• Safeguard and welfare of students and staff.
• Monitor venue performance against budget to maximise efficiency.
• Keep venue well-maintained and coordinate cleaning and fault reporting as needed.
• Support event communications across social media and member mailing lists.
• Collaborate with students and groups to create relevant content and assist with private hires.
• Support the Community Events team and societies with student-led events.
• Contribute to team meetings and review processes to improve operations.
