Job summary

Spire Portsmouth Hospital is seeking a Bank staff member for the sterile services section of the theatre team. You will check instruments on trays before and after decontamination, pack linen and consumables for sterilisation, and ensure equipment meets manufacturer instructions.

The role involves heavy lifting and is on an as-and-when basis with training provided. The position offers paid weekly work, access to pension benefits, and opportunities to progress into permanent posts.

Qualifications

• Good communication skills.
• Basic awareness of health and safety and hygiene.
• Qualification in decontamination (nice to have).

Responsibilities

• Check correct instruments are on trays before and after decontamination.
• Pack linen, instruments and consumables for sterilisation.
• Check sterilising and decontamination equipment against manufacturer’s instructions.
• Complete tracking systems accurately.
• Monitor repairs of instruments.
• Undertake routine tasks related to individuals' health and wellbeing.
• Carry out physical tasks, including heavy lifting.

Job description

Bank role in the sterile services part of Spire Portsmouth Hospital's theatre team, joining its flexible staff bank on an as-and-when basis. The work centres on checking instruments on trays before and after decontamination, packing linen, instruments and consumables for sterilisation, and checking sterilising equipment against manufacturer instructions. The post involves heavy lifting, and cover is often needed for busy periods, sickness or annual leave. A decontamination qualification is desirable but not essential, and full induction and mandatory training updates are provided.
