An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Bank Porter/Security Driver within our Portering Department based at Ayrshire Central Hopsital. This post is offered on a Bank basis. From 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will reduce from 37 to 36 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.
A UK driving licence is essential for this role.
The general role of the porter/driver is widely varied and consists of duties such as driving, meal delivery, item delivery, security (monitoring CCTV, patrolling premises, locking and securing same, issuing keys, assisting with gritting) waste management, at times transfer of patients in and around some hospital areas, the transportation of: linen, specimens, stores, equipment and supplies etc. The porters also coordinate all internal and external mail and assist as a presence in incidents related to violence and aggression. Full training will be provided.
Applicants should be physically fit and have a flexible attitude towards working hours and shift patterns. Strong customer care and communication skills. Must have the ability to use own initiative to anticipate and make appropriate decisions. Expected to work with minimal supervision. Previous experience is desirable, but full training will be provided.
