Job summary

The Rowans, operated by EQ Care, is seeking a Bank Kitchen Assistant in Wigan. You will work with the Head Chef to prepare nutritious meals, keep the kitchen clean, and support a 66-bed dementia and nursing home. This role requires flexibility to cover a 7-day rota, including weekends, and offers a supportive, caring environment.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 1 in food safety & Hygiene (or equivalent) or willingness to complete.
• Experience in a similar environment desirable.
• Ability to work on a 7-day rota including weekends.

Responsibilities

• Assist in hot and cold food preparation and serving.
• Be aware of dietary needs and respond to menu requests.
• Represent the EQ Care brand with a professional, welcoming presence.
• Monitor and maintain stock control and rotation.
• Load/unload dishwasher and keep the kitchen clean.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Home Manager.

Job description

As the bank kitchen assistant at The Rowans, you will be placed at the heart of the home along with the people that live here. Do you want to have the flexibility to work the hours you want? Would you like to work additional shifts as the need arises? You will work alongside the Head Chef, you will prepare and provide both nutritionally and satisfying meals for all residents. Ensure the kitchen is kept clean and tidy at all times, loading / unloading the dishwasher as well as following instructions given by the Head Chef / Cook. You will be part of the catering team and work closely with other departments making sure that the highest service standards are met. You will ensure that the mealtime experience is exceptional for every person regardless of their needs, including cultural/religious as well as medical needs such as IDDSI diet.

Responsibilities and Duties

• To assist in both hot and cold food preparation and serving of meals within the Home
• To be aware of people's dietary needs and respond to their comments and requests in respect of the menu
• Represent The Rowans brand by maintaining a professional and welcoming presence for all team members, residents, and visitors.
• To monitor and maintain effective stock control and rotation
• Perform any additional duties as assigned by the Home Manager to support the overall functioning of the home.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience within a similar environment desirable
• NVQ Level 1 in food safety & Hygiene (or equivalent) or a willingness to complete this qualification if not already obtained.
• Ability to work on a 7-day rota which will include weekends
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also being self-motivated and capable of working independently.
