Job summary

Sue Ryder Duchess of Kent in Reading is seeking a Bank Housekeeping Assistant to maintain a clean, safe and welcoming environment across our hospice and wards. You’ll work under our housekeeping team to support patients, families and staff with compassionate, reliable service.

The role pays £13.09 per hour with enhancements for unsociable hours. Based at 22 Liebenrood Rd, Reading RG30 2DX, it offers a structured induction, pension options and staff benefits through Sue Ryder.

Qualifications

• Experience in cleaning within a healthcare or care setting preferred.
• Ability to follow infection control procedures and safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the highest standard of cleanliness throughout the service including the laundry.
• Respond to incidents requiring quick, professional and discreet cleaning support.
• Safe storage and use of chemicals in line with safety rules.
• Record information in line with Health and Safety regulations and company policies.

Sue Ryder offers a range of hospice and community nursing services in Berkshire West and South Oxfordshire, including Reading, Newbury, Wokingham, Wallingford and Henley, and many more local communities in between.

About the Role

​Sue Ryder’s Housekeeping staff play a critical role in the operation of our hospices, contributing to the comfort, safety, and dignity of patients and their families. Their work supports the overall mission of providing compassionate, high‑quality end‑of‑life care.

This is a great opportunity to join our fantastic team of housekeeping assistants who together enable a clean, tidy and welcoming environment for both the service users and their visitors.

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Maintaining the highest possible standard of cleanliness throughout the service including the laundry


• Responding to incidents that require quick, professional and discreet assistance with regards to cleaning.


• Safe storage and use of chemicals


• To record all information required in line with Health and safety, compliance

• Ability to follow infection control procedures and safety protocols with flexibility


• Good communication and interpersonal skills


• Commitment to supporting a safe, accessible, and dignified environment

Desirable Criteria:

• Experience in a healthcare or infection‑controlled environment


• Training in COSHH and manual handling
