Job Description:

Job overview

The Band 6 Pre-Assessment nurse will work as an autonomous practitioner with a caseload of complex patients within a team structure. The delivery of high quality, effective and compassionate care is essential to our organisation. Pre-Assessment is considered to be a pivotal part of the patient’s pathway, ensuring patients are in their optimal health for their procedures. The post holder will lead the service in Winchester with band 7 support and across all trust sites, including Basingstoke, Winchester, and Andover.

Main duties of the job

  • Practise autonomously, managing a caseload of patients and supporting the team in delivering a seven-day, twenty-four-hour service, with responsibilities delegated accordingly. This includes:
  • Maintaining high standards of professional practice to ensure quality and safety of patient care, experience, and the patient journey.
  • Ensuring patients are fully informed about their procedures and what to expect during post-operative recovery.
  • Applying specialised clinical practice, knowledge, skills, and experience.

Working for our organisation

Our vision is to provide outstanding care for every patient. Patient care is central across our three sites: Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester, and Andover War Memorial Hospital. Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust serves approximately 600,000 people across Hampshire and parts of West Berkshire.

Our culture emphasizes placing people at the heart of all we do, fostering a sense of belonging, learning, improvement, and excellence.

We provide specialist services nationally and internationally. We are among the few UK centres treating pseudomyxoma peritonei, a rare abdominal cancer, and are leaders in tertiary liver and colorectal cancers.

The trust employs over 9,000 staff with an annual turnover exceeding £500 million. As a Foundation Trust, we are directly accountable to our members through elected governors, who influence our future plans.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We are open to flexible working arrangements; all requests will be considered.
