Sanctuary Personnel is seeking a Band 6 Histology Biomedical Scientist to join a Carlisle-based NHS pathology team on an ongoing locum basis. The role offers flexible full/part-time hours with an attractive £26.00 per hour rate and opportunities to develop in Health Science.

You will perform specialist histology duties, maintain quality standards, rotate across sections, and contribute to IQC/EQA schemes while ensuring compliance with HCPC and IBMS requirements.

Qualifikationen

• BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science or IBMS-accredited qualification is required.
• HCPC registration as Biomedical Scientist is mandatory.
• IBMS Specialist Portfolio (or equivalent) in Cellular Pathology/Histopathology.
• Evidence of ongoing CPD must be maintained.

• Undertake specialist Histology investigations and technical procedures (tissue processing, microtomy, staining, immunohistochemistry).
• Ensure prompt/accurate processing of patient specimens per SOPs and quality standards.
• Rotate through specialist sections to maintain a comprehensive diagnostic service.

What you will do:

• Undertake specialist Histology investigations and technical procedures, including tissue processing, microtomy, staining, immunohistochemistry, and associated diagnostic techniques.
• Ensure prompt and accurate processing of patient specimens using automated and manual methodologies in accordance with departmental SOPs and quality standards.
• Rotate through specialist sections of the Histopathology laboratory to maintain a comprehensive diagnostic service.
• Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot complex laboratory equipment, ensuring maintenance, calibration, and performance checks are completed appropriately.
• Contribute to Internal Quality Control (IQC) and External Quality Assessment (EQA) schemes, supporting UKAS accreditation and continuous quality improvement.

Person Specification:

Qualifications:

• BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science or an equivalent IBMS-accredited qualification.
• HCPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
• IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Cellular Pathology/Histopathology (or equivalent specialist qualification).
• Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Requirements:

• Current HCPC registration.
• Significant NHS Histopathology laboratory experience with the ability to work independently within a specialist Histology environment.
• Ideally suited for those with a Masters in Histology or the IBMS Histology specialist portfolio for Band 6 roles.
