Job summary

Sanctuary Personnel is recruiting a Locum Band 6 Biomedical Scientist in Histology for Derby, UK. This ongoing role offers a competitive hourly rate of £26 and full-time hours, with a start date of 27/07/2026 and an end date of 25/08/2026, with a view to extend.

You will perform microtomy, embedding, quality control, and clerical duties in a busy histology lab. HCPC registration and UK lab experience are preferred, with opportunities to handle complex cases and advance professionally.

Qualifications

• HCPC registration and a biomedical science-related qualification.
• Post-qualifying experience in biomedical science is preferred, ideally in a UK laboratory.

Responsibilities

• Produce histology blocks and slides with high precision.
• Perform microtomy, embedding, and microscopic quality control.
• Assist with sample logging in the laboratory information system and perform special stains as needed.
• Participate in face-to-face interview and practical assessments prior to start.

What you will do:

• Efficiently cut at least 25 blocks per hour, including complex cases, showcasing your precision and attention to detail.
• Conduct microtomy, embedding, and microscopic quality control of histological samples to ensure high standards are maintained.
• Support clerical duties by booking in samples on the lab information system, as well as performing manual special stains when required, depending on your experience.
• Demonstrate your expertise through a face-to-face interview and practical assessment prior to starting, highlighting your readiness for this vital role.

To be considered for this opportunity, you must have:

• HCPC registration and a relevant qualification in biomedical science or an alternative qualification in a related field.
• Demonstrable post-qualifying experience within biomedical science, ideally from a UK laboratory setting.
