Job summary

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an Emergency Planning Officer to coordinate EPRR across Good Hope, Heartlands, QE, Solihull and community sites. The role includes training delivery and business continuity planning, with a comprehensive development programme.

Essential qualifications include a degree in Emergency Planning or related field and a training/education qualification, plus proven project management experience within NHS/EPRR contexts.

Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen at University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) for an Emergency Planning Officer. You will work across all of our acute hospital sites -- Good Hope, Heartlands, Queen Elizabeth and Solihull and our Community Sites.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required

You will be part of an Emergency Planning Team who are responsible for the co-ordination of Emergency Preparedness, Resilience and Response (EPRR) across the Trust ensuring that UHB is fully prepared to respond to and manage any emergency situation it may face. This includes the development and delivery of training to all levels of staff across the Trust with pre-designated roles within the Trusts emergency incident plans as well as some bespoke training packages as required. Business Continuity planning and exercising is a key aspect of this role and therefore an understanding of and/or an interest in business continuity would be beneficial. You will need to be enthusiastic, with a pragmatic approach and excellent inter-personal skills to be successful for this exciting and dynamic role and in return you will receive a comprehensive development programme to provide you with the skills and competency to succeed in this post.

Qualifications
Essential
  • Degree level qualification in Emergency Planning or similar field as well as significant knowledge and experience in a relevant EPRR field to post graduate level.
  • Qualification in Training/Education or equivalent
  • Project Management qualification / demonstrative experience of supporting /leading the delivery of project management.
Desirable
  • Diploma in Health Emergency Planning (DipHEP)
Experience
Essential
  • Detailed knowledge of EPRR legislation, including the Civil Contingencies Act 2004
  • Working within and with multi-disciplinary teams and multi-agency environments
  • Supporting the delivery of projects across an organisation
  • Experience of managing risks and reporting
  • Proven experience of writing reports to a high level
  • Experience of developing and reviewing emergency and business continuity plans and procedures in line with local and national guidance
  • Experience of EPRR working within the NHS or Public Sector
  • Experience of performing risk assessments
  • Experience of carrying out Business Impact Analysis
  • Experience of designing, delivering, and evaluating tests or exercises of emergency and business continuity plans
  • Experience of responding to incidents/actual emergencies
