Job summary

The Emergency Planning Manager at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust will be a key member of the EPRR team, supporting services across Royal Derby Hospital and Queen's Hospital Burton to strengthen resilience and ensure continuity of patient care.

The role covers risk assessment, development and delivery of Business Continuity Plans, training, exercising, and effective communication, aligning with national NHS EPRR standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development and delivery of EPRR plans and procedures for the Trust.
  • Coordinate business continuity planning across all five hospital sites.
  • Deliver training and practical exercises to staff for incident response.
  • Ensure compliance with NHS EPRR framework and annual assurance processes.
  • Provide risk assessment and project management support for EPRR initiatives.

Job description

The Emergency Planning Manager will be a key member of the Trust's specialist Emergency Preparedness, Resilience and Response (EPRR) team, supporting services across the organisation to strengthen resilience and maintain the continuity of patient care. The team works at all levels of the Trust to develop, implement and maintain effective emergency plans, deliver training and exercises, and coordinate responses to a wide range of incidents and major emergencies that may impact healthcare services.

Based across Royal Derby Hospital and Queen's Hospital Burton, the post holder will work closely with colleagues, partners and stakeholders to ensure the Trust is prepared to respond effectively to both internal and external challenges, safeguarding patients, staff and essential services.

The post holder will support the Head of Emergency Planning in maintaining the trust's EPRR responsibilities and manage the day- to-day implementation and development of EPRR including business continuity plans, training, communication and exercising for the trust ensuring delivery of performance outcomes. Other projects may be assigned within the remit of the Head of Emergency Planning to ensure delivery of key aims and objectives.

Responsible for risk assessing, planning the development and implementation of all arrangements relating to integration and delivery of Business Continuity Plans, training and exercising programmes and communication compliance across all 5 hospital sites in support of the Head of Emergency Planning contributing to the trust's preparedness, resilience and ability to respond to and recover from incidents and emergencies as defined in the Civil Contingencies Act 2004. Ensuring national and local standards are met including NHS EPRR Framework monitored through EPRR Annual Assurance process and any other relevant guidance.

The Post holder will be a key trust contact for all EPRR matters within the Trust and act as a conduit for EPRR guidance and information. The post holder will work autonomously.
