Job description

Job Title: Diagnostic Radiographer

We have a vacancy for an enthusiastic, ambitious diagnostic radiographer to join our friendly and forward-thinking Radiology team. This is an ideal opportunity for an HCPC registered radiographer wishing to increase their radiographic experience and expertise in a bustling and team-focused department.

Our internal training and support have long been a draw for candidates, enabling numerous radiographers to develop skills for career progression and advanced practice.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Undertake all clinical work on rotation through the department under the direction of the lead radiographers, maintaining high clinical standards throughout.
  2. Act as the lead radiographer in the general X-ray area and on-call, effectively coordinating patient throughput while supervising the radiographic and student team.
  3. Reduce patient radiation dose during examinations through collimation and careful positioning.
  4. Take responsibility for actions as per IR(ME)R and IRR99, staying updated with standards and guidelines.
  5. Observe department DRL and DIL, report excess doses and radiation incidents to the Radiation physics service and via Datix.
  6. Undertake departmental training and accept advice and instruction as necessary.
  7. Seek advice from a modality lead when faced with new or unusual situations, especially when it may be necessary to refuse a patient’s examination request.
  8. Ensure competency sheets are signed off promptly and maintain competency in all signed-off areas.
  9. Perform complex CT scans independently or during out-of-hours shifts, including IV cannulation and safe administration of iodinated contrast media.

Additional Role Details:

The post involves rotating through all radiology areas, acting as coordinator and supervisor in general X-ray and CT. Candidates must demonstrate high competence in general X-ray and CT examinations, with responsibility and initiative to support junior staff and students.

The role includes participation in a 24-hour shift rota, with out-of-hours responsibilities as lead radiographer upon completing CT competencies. Teamwork, patient focus, and a proactive attitude are essential.
