Job summary

An opportunity has arisen within the Neonatal Unit for a nursery nurse to join our team. We are a local neonatal unit with 14 cots, including 2 intensive care, 2 high dependency, and 10 special care cots, as well as a 4-bed transitional care unit caring for mothers and small babies together. If you are an enthusiastic and highly motivated nursery nurse who wants to deliver high-quality family-centered care, this opportunity is for you. You will be currently practicing as a nursery nurse, have completed an NVQ level 3 in childcare, and possess excellent standards of nursing practice. Opportunities to develop your neonatal skills, along with further education and training, are actively supported. The successful applicant will need to be flexible regarding work areas and be available for work days, nights, and weekends. Part-time hours will be considered.

Main duties of the job

  1. To work within NNU as part of the multidisciplinary team, promoting the unit philosophy of family-centered care.
  2. To provide a high standard of nursing care under the supervision of qualified team members.
  3. To work with senior staff to assess patients, plan and implement care, and maintain associated records.
  4. Ensure effective communication and close collaboration with colleagues, parents, carers, and patients.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Manage a group of patients under supervision, providing evidence-based care.
  • Work with supervision and as part of a team in assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of care for children.
  • Manage time and workload effectively to ensure smooth service operation.
  • Adhere to Trust policies and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain clinical skills such as neonatal and high dependency care, nasogastric feeding, oxygen therapy, etc., according to guidelines.
  • Utilize and promote therapeutic play as part of care and child development.
  • Contribute to the development of unit policies and procedures.
  • Report safeguarding concerns to the senior nurse immediately.
  • Support mothers with breastfeeding, artificial feeding, and nasogastric feeding, following Trust policies and BFI recommendations.
