Job summary

Hull Royal Infirmary is seeking a Permanent Band 4 Associate Practitioner to join our Microbiology Team. You will assist in reception duties, perform a range of manual, semi-automated and automated laboratory investigations, and report results, contributing to a high-quality diagnostic service.

Qualifications

  • Education equivalent to AS Level or higher OR NVQ Level 2 in Laboratory sciences OR 2 years laboratory experience plus a recognised qualification in Maths and English Language, or Science and Humanities as alternative.
  • NVQ level 3 in Laboratory sciences or equivalent foundation degree in a relevant subject.
  • IBMS Certificate of Achievement Parts 1 and 2 (Desirable).
  • Previous laboratory experience in Microbiology; Basic knowledge of laboratory health & safety.

Responsibilities

  • Reception duties: sorting patient samples and entering requests.
  • Perform manual, semi-automated and fully automated laboratory investigations and reporting of results (verbal and electronic).
  • Use professional judgment to ensure accurate and timely reports within available resources.
  • Support, advise and train less experienced staff including trainees, students and Band 2 MLAs.

We have a vacancy for a Permanent Band 4 Associate Practitioner to join our friendly Microbiology Team at Hull Royal Infirmary. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join our team, who we expect will be able to help us provide an efficient, high quality Microbiology Diagnostic Service. We are committed to providing excellent training and support a variety of CPD and learning opportunities. If you have the appropriate qualifications and experience required for this role, and would like to thrive in a supportive and scientific department while providing a diagnostic service for our patients, then this is the job for you! The successful candidate will be able to be flexible in order to meet the service needs. Interviews for this post will be held face to face with no remote option available. Main duties of the job The post holders will perform a range of complex tasks in closely defined areas comparable with a Biomedical Scientist. This will include reception duties (sorting patient samples and entering requests), performing manual, semi-automated and fully automated laboratory investigations and the reporting of results (verbal and electronically). The post holder will use their individual judgment to make decisions that will have an impact on the provision of accurate and timely reports within available resources. The post holder will work closely with other healthcare professionals and be expected to support, advise and train less experienced staff such as trainees, students and Band 2 MLAs, ensuring that personal proficiency and competency are maintained.
