The Orthopaedic Outpatient Team would welcome applications from a Senior Health Care Assistant who enjoy working independently and working within a team structure to be instrumental in providing patient focused care to the cohort of patients who attend our department.

These posts are over a shift pattern of hours between 8am to 5.30pm or 6pm to meet the demands of the service.

The successful candidates will join a well-established team and will need to be flexible and adaptable, a good team player with the ability to work well on their own initiative as well as willing to take on a variety of duties, whilst having the ability to maintain attention to detail.

The post holder must have experience (whether it be in a ward-based role or outpatients) in looking after patients with orthopaedic injuries/conditions. The ideal you will have experience of using our hospital software systems (Lorenzo/Review and PACS) and have sound customer service abilities.

Main duties of the job

Highlighted below are some of the nursing skills needed for a fast-paced working area such as Outpatients:

  • The ability to work both independently and as part of the wider Multidisciplinary Team
  • Supporting and assisting your consultant colleagues in the smooth running of their clinics.
  • Supporting the VFC clinics by calling patients and booking appointments for them.
  • Acting as a chaperone.
  • Following training to support the MDT in undertaking Virtual Fracture Clinics.
  • Application of orthotic devises to support the Plaster Room Team i.e. splints, boots, knee braces etc.
  • To liaise with Site Management Team and on call team if a patient requires admitting from clinic.
  • Being able to undertake baseline measurements as required; BMI, blood pressures, blood sugar monitoring, ECG’s, Urinalysis, venepuncture and/or cannulation.

  • Good communication skills, able to communicate respectfully verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to learn new skills and prioritise your workload
  • Significant experience in a Health Care setting as a Health Care Assistant predominately in orthopaedics, outpatients or a ED setting
  • Ability to confidently all of the Trusts IT Systems - Lorenzo, PACS, Review and Teletracking
  • Undertake Baseline Measurements including ECG's, Venapunture and Cannulation
  • GCSE Maths or Numeracy and Literacy Level 2
  • Care Certificate
  • Strong ability to priortise workload
