Job summary

Genomics England is seeking a Backend Python Software Engineer to deliver and own backend software for genomic testing and research at national scale. You will design scalable Python services, REST APIs and cloud-native apps on AWS, collaborating with URD and the RE Platform to support the National Genomic Research Library.

You will work with relational databases, identity management (Okta), and CI tools like GitLab, Confluence and Jira, contributing to test automation and cross-team feature

Qualifications

• BSc in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• Experience delivering backend software and owning services.
• Strong Python backend development and AWS experience.
• Experience with REST APIs, microservices and relational databases.
• Familiarity with IdPs such as Okta and identity management.
• Ability to work in an agile, collaborative environment with test-driven practices.

Responsibilities

• Backend software design and development.
• Create scalable Python code and REST APIs.
• Develop microservices on AWS and manage data with SQL databases.
• Integrate identity management and IAM solutions.
• Contribute to test automation and CI workflows.
• Collaborate with front-end, QA and Platform Engineers.
