Job summary

Monzo is seeking Backend Engineers to join cross-functional squads that design and build our in-house banking platform. You’ll work with product managers, designers, and data analysts to deliver reliable backend services and scalable systems.

No strict degree requirements; strong backend experience and a product-minded approach are valued. The role supports relocation to the UK and distributed work within the UK, with a London presence optional.

Qualifications

• Strong experience building backend for technology products.
• Product-minded with focus on customer outcomes and data-informed decisions.
• Comfort with ambiguity and collaboration in cross-functional squads.
• Interest in distributed systems and resilient software architecture.
• Experience with statically-typed languages (Go, Java, C, Scala, etc.) advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with your squad to build and support Monzo backend components.
• Contribute to designing and implementing scalable services across platforms.
• Work across disciplines to ensure customer-focused outcomes and reliable systems.
• Participate in the interview process and onboarding to ramp up quickly.
