Job summary

Breedon Group plc is seeking a Principal Data Engineer to lead the design, build and deployment of our Azure-based data platform. You will set engineering standards, guide architecture decisions and deliver secure, scalable data products using Microsoft Fabric, Azure Databricks and related Azure services.

Qualifications

• Experience designing and implementing an Azure analytical platform including Databricks, Data Factory and Data Lake Storage.
• Proven ability to articulate strategy and benefits of a central enterprise cloud data platform to senior stakeholders.
• Experience coaching data engineers and establishing CI/CD practices for data pipelines and platform components.
• Familiar with AI-focused data engineering concepts and retrieval pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Provide Technical Leadership for data engineering and guide architecture decisions.
• Define engineering standards, reference architectures and delivery frameworks for scalability.
• Lead architecture reviews and data modelling decisions to ensure secure and resilient solutions.
• Deliver modern cloud-based data platforms and pipelines to support analytics and AI workloads.
• Establish testing, data quality, monitoring and security practices for reliable data services.
• Drive improvements, reduce technical debt, and optimise cloud costs and performance.
• Lead technical discovery and contribute to the data strategy and roadmap.
• Mentor engineers and foster a culture of engineering excellence and continuous learning.
