Job summary

IBM Consulting is seeking an AWS DevOps Engineer to design, automate, deploy, and maintain secure cloud environments for public sector clients. You will enable reliable delivery across the SDLC, build CI/CD pipelines, and implement IaC with a focus on security and governance.

You will work with Python, Shell scripts, Git, and common AWS services, collaborating across teams to ensure robust, scalable solutions while adhering to BPSS and potential vetting requirements.

Qualifications

• Experience in AWS, DevOps, Cloud Engineering, or Software Engineering.
• Practical experience developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with AWS cloud services and deploying applications to cloud environments.
• Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code, automation, and configuration management.
• Scripting experience with Python, Shell/Bash, or similar languages.
• Experience with Git/source control and software development processes.
• Understanding of automated testing and continuous integration.
• Knowledge of SDLC methodologies and DevOps best practices.
• Experience troubleshooting technical issues across application and infrastructure environments.

Responsibilities

Your Role And Responsibilities

As an AWS DevOps Engineer, you will support IBM’s public sector clients by designing, automating, deploying, and maintaining secure cloud and non-cloud environments. You will work across the software development lifecycle to enable reliable application delivery, continuous integration, testing, and deployment.

• Design, configure, and maintain AWS cloud infrastructure and hybrid environments.
• Install, configure, and manage DevOps automation tools across cloud and on‑premises infrastructure.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated builds, testing, and application deployments.
• Develop automation and deployment scripts using Python, Shell/Bash, and other scripting languages.

• Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and configuration management practices.

This role is subject to pre‑employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). An additional range of Personal Security Controls referred to as National Security Vetting (NVS) may apply, this could include meeting the eligibility requirements for The Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV).

• Experience in AWS, DevOps, Cloud Engineering, or Software Engineering.

Preferred Technical And Professional Experience

• AWS certification such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Solutions Architect, or Developer.
• Experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, or AWS CodePipeline.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes/Amazon EKS.
• Knowledge of AWS services including EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, CloudWatch, RDS, and Lambda.
• Experience working in public sector, government, regulated, or security-sensitive environments.
