Job summary

IBM Consulting is seeking an AWS DevOps Engineer to deliver cloud migration, modernisation, and adoption initiatives for public sector clients, using AWS, DevOps practices, and IaC. You will work across development, infrastructure, security, and client teams to build secure, scalable cloud solutions with automation, monitoring, and CI/CD at the core.

The role involves collaboration, incident management, and continuous improvement in a regulated public environment.

Qualifications

• Strong experience with AWS cloud services and DevOps practices.
• Hands-on experience creating and maintaining CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins and Git-based workflows.
• Proficiency with IaC using Terraform and configuration management with Ansible.
• Scripting and automation using Bash/Shell and ANT.
• Experience with Git, Docker, and Liquibase for deployment automation.
• Experience with JIRA and Confluence within Agile delivery environments.
• Knowledge of core AWS services (EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, CloudWatch, Lambda, RDS, ECS/EKS).
• Understanding of DevOps principles, automation, monitoring, incident management, and continuous improvement.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex issues and collaborate across teams.

Your Role And Responsibilities

As an AWS DevOps Engineer delivering solutions for IBM’s public sector clients, you will deliver cloud migration, modernisation, and adoption initiatives using AWS and DevOps practices. Working collaboratively across development, infrastructure, security, and client teams, you will build secure, scalable, and automated cloud solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• AWS Infrastructure: Build, deploy, configure, and maintain AWS environments and services using Infrastructure as Code.
• Cloud Migration: Support the migration and modernisation of applications and workloads onto AWS.
• CI/CD & Automation: Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, deployments, and operational tooling.
• Infrastructure & Security: Implement scalable, resilient, and secure solutions aligned with IBM and public sector standards.
• Monitoring & Operations: Monitor AWS environments, troubleshoot issues, and maintain service reliability and performance.
• Incident Management: Lead incident resolution, root cause analysis, and corrective actions to prevent recurring issues.
• Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve automation, processes, infrastructure, and overall customer outcomes.

This role is subject to pre-employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). An additional range of Personal Security Controls referred to as National Security Vetting (NVS) may apply, this could include meeting the eligibility requirements for The Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV).

Required Technical And Professional Expertise

• Strong experience with AWS cloud services and DevOps practices, including infrastructure automation, deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
• Hands-on experience creating and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, with knowledge of Jenkins and Git-based workflows.
• Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and configuration management tools such as Ansible.
• Knowledge of scripting and automation using Bash/Shell and ANT.
• Experience with Git, Docker, and Liquibase for source control, containerisation, and database deployment automation.
• Experience working with JIRA and Confluence within Agile delivery environments.
• Knowledge of core AWS services, including EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, CloudWatch, Lambda, RDS, ECS/EKS, and AWS networking and security concepts.
• Understanding of DevOps principles, automation, monitoring, logging, incident management, and continuous improvement.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and collaborate effectively across development, infrastructure, security, and client teams.

Preferred Technical And Professional Experience

• Cloud & DevOps: Experience with cloud migration and adoption, with a strong understanding of DevOps principles, Agile delivery, and modern cloud operating models.
• Scripting & Automation: Experience developing scripts and automation to support testing, deployment, infrastructure provisioning, and operational processes.
• Open Source Technologies: Exposure to open source technologies and solutions, including design, implementation, testing, deployment, and integration into CI/CD environments.
• AWS Services: Broader experience across AWS services, cloud security, networking, monitoring, containers, serverless technologies, and cloud-native architectures.
• DevOps Tooling: Exposure to additional DevOps technologies and practices, including Kubernetes, Helm, AWS CloudFormation, AWS CDK, and automated monitoring and observability.
• Public Sector Delivery: Experience working within regulated, security-conscious, or public sector environments is desirable.
