Job summary

IBM Consulting UK is seeking a Senior AWS DevOps Engineer to drive DevOps initiatives across public and private sectors. You will automate software delivery, manage IaC, and mentor engineers in modern DevOps practices.

You will work on full lifecycle deployments, focusing on automation, monitoring, and security in AWS environments, with a strong emphasis on scalable, reliable pipelines. This role offers flexible, inclusive work arrangements and career progression within IBM.

Qualifications

  • Proven DevOps experience with designing, implementing, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines on AWS.
  • Strong scripting in Bash and Python for automation of deployment tasks.
  • Hands-on container experience with Docker and Kubernetes (EKS preferred).
  • Solid cloud architecture knowledge with AWS (EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, CloudWatch).
  • Security: identify, remediate vulnerabilities across cloud infra, containers, and CI/CD tools.

Your Role And Responsibilities

We are seeking a Senior AWS DevOps Engineer with public sector and consulting experience to join IBM and help drive our DevOps initiatives. In this role, you will lead smaller projects, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to shaping IBM’s technical direction in modern DevOps practices. You will also be involved throughout the full DevOps lifecycle, with a focus on automating and streamlining software delivery pipelines using current tools and methodologies.

Responsibilities
  • Work with infrastructure‑as‑code (IaC) tools such as Terraform and CloudFormation.
  • Configure and maintain monitoring and alerting solutions using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or Nagios.
  • Manage log collection and aggregation platforms such as the ELK Stack or Splunk.
  • Apply security best practices in line with DevOps principles.
  • Implement and maintain Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) processes.
Education

Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree.

Required Technical And Professional Expertise
  • Proven experience in DevOps practices, including designing, implementing, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using AWS services such as CodePipeline, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, and CloudFormation.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills using Bash and Python; experience developing infrastructure and deployment automation for AWS environments.
  • Hands‑on experience with containerisation technologies, including building, managing, and deploying Docker containers and orchestrating workloads using Kubernetes (EKS preferred).
  • Solid understanding of cloud architecture and operations with deep exposure to AWS services (EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, S3, IAM, VPC, CloudWatch).
  • Excellent knowledge of Git and Git‑based workflows, supporting collaborative development and automated deployment processes.
  • Experienced in identifying, analysing, and remediating security vulnerabilities across cloud infrastructure, containerised environments, and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., using AWS Security Hub, GuardDuty, ECR scanning, or SAST/DAST tools).

This role is subject to pre‑employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). An additional range of Personal Security Controls referred to as National Security Vetting (NVS) may apply, potentially including meeting the eligibility requirements for the enhanced Security Check (eSC) or enhanced Developed Vetting (eDV).

Preferred Technical And Professional Experience
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, CircleCI).
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
  • Knowledge of infrastructure as code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, ELK Stack, Datadog).
  • Passion for continuous learning and professional development.
