Job summary

IBM Consulting is seeking an Azure DevOps Engineer to design, implement, and maintain secure DevOps solutions for UK public sector and MOD clients. You will work across the SDLC to deliver automated builds, tests, and deployments in cloud and non-cloud environments.

You will use Python, Shell, Java, Docker, and Kubernetes to build pipelines, automate tasks, and ensure compliance with security requirements. A valid UK SC clearance is required to support sensitive government projects.

Qualifications

• Experience with Azure DevOps and DevOps automation tools.
• CI/CD pipelines, automated builds, version control and deployments.
• Deployment across cloud and non-cloud environments.
• Scripting or programming in Python, Shell or Java.
• Understanding of DevOps principles, software engineering processes, and SDLC methodologies.
• Experience with automated testing and continuous integration practices.
• Current UK Security Check (SC) clearance is required.
• Experience in MOD/public sector environments is a plus.

Your Role And Responsibilities

As an Azure DevOps Engineer, you will support IBM’s UK public sector and MOD clients by designing, implementing, and maintaining secure and reliable DevOps solutions across cloud and non-cloud environments.

You will work across the software development lifecycle, using automation, continuous integration, continuous testing, and deployment practices to deliver high-quality and efficient technology solutions.

Your Responsibilities

• Configure and manage DevOps automation tools across cloud and non-cloud environments.
• Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support automated builds, testing, and deployments.
• Develop build, deployment, and automation scripts using Python, Shell, Java, and other scripting languages.
• Package and deploy applications across development, test, and production environments.
• Implement continuous testing and automated quality assurance processes.
• Apply DevOps, Agile, and SDLC best practices throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
• Tailor DevOps tools and processes to meet specific project and application requirements.

Security Requirements

This role requires current UK Security Check (SC) clearance and is subject to pre-employment screening in line with the UK Government Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS).

Depending on the client assignment, additional National Security Vetting (NSV) requirements may apply, including eligibility for Developed Vetting (DV).

Required Technical And Professional Expertise

• Experience working with Azure DevOps and DevOps automation tools.
• Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated builds, version control, and deployments.
• Experience with application deployment and configuration across cloud and non-cloud environments.
• Scripting or programming experience using Python, Shell, Java, or similar languages.
• Understanding of DevOps principles, software engineering processes, and SDLC methodologies.
• Experience with automated testing and continuous integration practices.
• Ability to understand project requirements and configure DevOps solutions accordingly.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Current UK Security Check (SC) clearance is required.

Preferred Technical And Professional Experience

• Experience with Microsoft Azure and Azure services.
• Experience with Azure DevOps Services, Azure Pipelines, Repos, Boards, and Artifacts.
• Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform or ARM/Bicep.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
• Experience with Perl or Ruby for automation.
• Familiarity with AWS or other cloud platforms.
• Experience working within Agile development environments.
• Previous experience supporting MOD, defence, government, or other security-sensitive environments.
