Job description

Ensuring all our students have the very best educational start in life, in an environment where everyone is Valued, Challenged and Inspired, sits at the heart of what we do in Christ’s College.

As part of Emmanuel Schools Foundation, we are an all through school in Sunderland with pupils from reception to year 11. We are looking to recruit an experienced SENDCo to join our strong leadership team and deliver an outstanding provision for students with special educational needs and disabilities. Reporting to the Vice Principal, the SENDCo will provide outstanding leadership and management to the whole school.

We have high expectations for our students as they grow and develop and all our staff provide important role models to them in terms of positive attitude, work ethic and diligence.

The vision of the Emmanuel Schools Foundation is to provide schools of character for the whole community, with excellence in academic achievement for students of all abilities within a biblical Christian framework that allows for personal, spiritual, moral and social development. Provision is fully inclusive valuing all students and staff equally. Of great importance for our students is that they would seek truth (finding answers to their big questions about identity, life and its purpose) and develop excellent characters (learning about ethical decision-making, and serving others). We apply Christ’s teaching of servant leadership, and the well-known motto of ‘serve to lead’, as our model and guide.

Further information is available in the job description and person specification.
Join us and in addition to working with committed and helpful colleagues, the Trust can offer access to the following benefits:

  • Defined benefit pension scheme
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Daily lunch allowance
  • Free parking
  • Access to our exclusive Benefits Hub
  • Employee centred and family friendly policies and practices that support you in and beyond the workplace
  • Enhanced sick pay, maternity leave and paternity leave (dependent on length of service)
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Funded eye tests and glasses for DSE users (subject to T/Cs)

Christ's College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff to share this commitment. Where the post is engaged in regulated activity, and/or an opportunity for contact with children the position will be subject to an enhanced DBS check. In addition, as part of the shortlisting process, and in accordance with statutory guidance, we may carry out an online search (for publicly available material) to help identify any incidents or issues that have happened which we may want to explore with shortlisted applicants at interview.
