Job description

Job Title: SENDCo at Christ's College

Ensuring all our students have the very best educational start in life, in an environment where everyone is valued, challenged, and inspired, is at the heart of what we do at Christ’s College.

As part of the Emmanuel Schools Foundation, we are an all-through school in Sunderland with pupils from reception to year 11. We are seeking an experienced SENDCo to join our strong leadership team and deliver outstanding provision for students with special educational needs and disabilities. Reporting to the Vice Principal, the SENDCo will provide exemplary leadership and management across the school.

We hold high expectations for our students as they grow and develop, and all staff serve as positive role models in attitude, work ethic, and diligence.

The vision of the Emmanuel Schools Foundation is to provide schools of character for the whole community, with excellence in academic achievement for students of all abilities within a biblical Christian framework that fosters personal, spiritual, moral, and social development. Our provision is fully inclusive, valuing all students and staff equally. It is important that our students seek truth—exploring questions about identity, life, and purpose—and develop excellent character through learning about ethical decision-making and serving others. We follow Christ’s teaching of servant leadership, guided by the motto ‘serve to lead’.

Further information is available in the job description and person specification.

Join us and enjoy working with committed and helpful colleagues. The Trust offers the following benefits:

  • Defined benefit pension scheme
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Daily lunch allowance
  • Free parking
  • Access to our exclusive Benefits Hub
  • Employee-centered and family-friendly policies and practices that support you both in and outside of work
  • Enhanced sick pay, maternity leave, and paternity leave (dependent on length of service)
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Funded eye tests and glasses for DSE users (subject to terms and conditions)

Christ's College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All staff are expected to share this commitment. The position may require an enhanced DBS check, especially if engaged in regulated activity or contact with children. Additionally, as part of the shortlisting process, and in accordance with statutory guidance, we may conduct an online search to identify any publicly available material relevant to shortlisted applicants, which may be discussed during interviews.
