Job summary

Shield AI seeks a Systems Engineer, Autonomy & Software to tackle complex systems engineering challenges for autonomous defense systems. The role sits at the intersection of systems, software, and autonomy, translating mission needs into clear requirements and architectures.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to define interfaces and verification strategies, and to develop software components in C++ and Python while maintaining a deep understanding of autonomy and software

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Robotics, or related technical discipline.
• 5+ years of experience developing, integrating, or delivering complex software-intensive systems, preferably in defense/autonomy.
• Strong background in software engineering with C++ and Python.
• Experience with autonomous or robotic systems and understanding of autonomy concepts.
• Experience developing system and subsystem requirements, architectures, interfaces, and verification artifacts.

Responsibilities

• Apply systems engineering principles to develop and integrate autonomous defense systems.
• Translate mission needs into system, software, and autonomy requirements.
• Develop and maintain system architectures, interfaces, and verification strategies.
• Collaborate with autonomy, software, guidance, navigation and control, and hardware teams for integration.
• Manage interfaces between vehicle systems, sensors, payloads, and external systems.
• Develop software, prototypes, and tooling in C++ and Python to solve integration challenges.
• Analyze telemetry and logs to validate system behavior and support decisions.
• Lead system integration activities across simulation, software-in-the-loop, and hardware-in-the-loop environments.
