Job summary

SII UK is seeking an AI Engineer for Autonomy to design, develop and deliver advanced AI/ML solutions within safety-critical defence programmes. You will join a multidisciplinary AI and software team, translating business challenges into robust, scalable AI capabilities.

You will work across the full AI lifecycle—from concept to deployment—while supporting innovation across high-profile programmes. Strong Python, PyTorch/TensorFlow and ROS2 experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Strong Python development experience in industrial settings.
• Experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow or Scikit-Learn.
• Knowledge of ROS2 or similar autonomy frameworks.
• Experience with CV, NLP/LLM or time-series analytics.
• Data analysis with Pandas/NumPy/SQL; production AI deployment.
• Understanding of Responsible AI, explainability and security.
• Git and modern software practices incl. CI/CD; Agile/DevOps.
• Security clearance eligibility (SC) in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Translate requirements into AI solution designs with measurable outcomes.
• Develop, train and evaluate AI/ML models across autonomy areas.
• Design data processing, training and evaluation pipelines.
• Ensure Responsible AI, robustness, explainability and security.
• Collaborate with software engineers to deploy AI to production.
• Monitor model performance, data quality and drift metrics.
• Produce secure, maintainable code and technical documentation.
• Develop reusable AI components to accelerate programmes.
