Job summary

GXO Logistics, Inc. is seeking an Automation Shift Engineer to support the Kraft Heinz site in Wigan. You will maintain conveyors, PLCs, barcode scanners and other automated equipment to maximise uptime and comply with safety standards.

The role operates on a 4 on/4 off schedule (06:00–18:00 and 18:00–06:00) with 7 rotations and 18 days of annual leave in addition to holidays. Competitive salary and pension are offered.

Qualifications

  • Level 3 Electrical Engineering is essential.
  • Experience in automated process environments with PLCs and conveyors.
  • Ability to work at height and perform preventative maintenance.
  • IOSH/18th Edition/ NVQ certifications are desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance on automation systems.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns to minimise downtime.
  • Diagnose faults in electrical, mechanical and control systems.
  • Inspect and monitor equipment condition to prevent failures.
  • Maintain CMMS records accurately.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and OEMs during critical breakdowns.

Job description

Are you an experienced Automation Engineer? Do you have high bay automated storage and retrieval system experience? Want a position where you can apply and expand your knowledge?

Here at GXO, we are looking for a Automation Shift Engineer to join our team at our prestigious, Kraft Heinz site in Wigan. This is a state-of-the-art automated facility which includes: Conveyors, Rail mounted cranes, Pallet wrapping and label machinery, Automated layer picker, Barcode scanner and PLC’s. This automated operation is the key distribution centre of Kraft Heinz UK wide operation supplying retailors across the country. You will ensure the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the plant, equipment and overall automated function on site. This will be achieved through planned preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis, reactive maintenance, condition monitoring and continuous improvement initiatives. In addition, you will play a key role in maximising equipment uptime by reducing downtime and supporting with operational performance. Furthermore, you will take a leading role in championing compliance, health, safety and environmental measure ensuring the operation meets all standards.

This is a full time, permanent position. You’ll be working, 4 on 4 off, rotating over 06:00 to 18:00 and 18:00 to 06:00. There are 7 rotations and then 18 days off using annual leave allowance in addition to 4 off.

We’re looking to offer a salary of up to £52,350.48 per annum inclusive of night shift allowance, and 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays). What you’ll do on a typical day:
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance activities according to maintenance schedules and manuals
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns punctually to minimise site downtime
  • Diagnose and repair Electrical, Mechanical and Controls system faults
  • Conduct inspections and monitor condition of equipment to identify potential failures before they occur and implementing prevention initiatives
  • Ensure maintenance records are kept up to date accurately within the computerised maintenance management system (CMMS)
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams & external OEMs during critical breakdowns
What you need to succeed at GXO:
  • Experience in an automated process environment including PLC’s, conveyors, Auto wrappers, Automatic S/R machines, closed loop communication systems, bar code scanners would be a benefit
  • Must be able to work at height
  • Level 3 qualification in Electrical Engineering (essential)
  • NVQ Level 3 (desirable)
  • 18th Edition Electrical wiring (desirable)
  • IOSH (desirable)
