Royal Mail is engaged in one of the biggest technological changes in its history, transitioning to a predominantly mechanised parcel sortation process. It’s a very exciting time to join us! To facilitate this change, a huge organisation-wide investment in new parcel processing technology is in progress, along with the necessary engineering investments. Salary: £51,051 per annum, plus night shift allowance. Benefits include 22.5 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, a defined contribution pension scheme, and a weekend shift supplement (£51 per Saturday, £102 per Sunday attendance). You may also be eligible for a welcome bonus of £1,500 (subject to terms and conditions, paid in installments).
The successful candidate will be required to work on a shift rotation system at the Plymouth Mail Centre, with some voluntary flexibility to meet operational needs, including occasional overtime and shift pattern adjustments.
Shift hours are approximately 40 hours per week, full-time, covering Earliest: 06:45 – 15:15, Late: 14:45 – 23:15, Night: 22:45 – 07:15, with potential changes to meet operational demands.
This is a Pool position requiring adaptability and flexibility to cover for other technicians during leave or sickness. Outside of these periods, your standard shift will be the day shift from 07:00 to 15:30, Monday to Friday. Initially, you will start on this early shift, with scheduled rotation to gain experience with other shifts.
You will ensure the availability and performance of automation assets through effective maintenance, including:
You are an experienced multi-skilled engineer, qualified in electrical and mechanical engineering (minimum ONC Electrical Engineering/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent). You understand Health & Safety legislation, have experience maintaining automation equipment, and possess excellent communication skills. A full UK driving licence is required, as travel to other sites may be necessary.
