Job summary

TEC Partners-Technical Recruitment Specialists is seeking a Controls Commissioning Engineer to join a Midlands/UK-based automation and engineering business. You will commission bespoke equipment from build through customer inspection and sign-off, working across workshop and field settings.

Role involves troubleshooting, commissioning, and occasional travel to customer sites in the UK and overseas. You will use PLCs, HMIs, servo drives, and robotics to ensure safety, efficiency and adherence to

Qualifications

• Experience programming and commissioning PLCs and HMIs across major brands.
• Knowledge of servo drives, VFDs, remote I/O, Ethernet and Profinet networks.
• Electrical, mechanical or pneumatic engineering background in automation or machinery.
• Ability to read electrical and pneumatic schematics and drawings.
• Experience with robotics, ideally six-axis systems.
• Strong fault-finding, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently, interpret briefs and use initiative.
• Vocational training or apprenticeship in engineering.

Responsibilities

• Program, modify and commission control systems using PLCs, servo drives, robots and other controllers.
• Troubleshoot and adjust electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and control systems.
• Carry out fault-finding and assessments on components and machinery.
• Modify electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and software systems to improve performance.
• Conduct structured testing to verify capabilities and performance.
• Record test results and document all modifications clearly.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and communicate to the team.
• Provide feedback to support project progress and delivery.
• Participate in internal design reviews and collaborate with engineering teams.
• Attend customer sites for installation, commissioning and sign-off.
