About the Role

ELB Recruit is a privately run engineering practice that is looking for an experienced Highways Engineering Technician to join their team in West Yorkshire. This is a great opportunity to contribute to a diverse range of infrastructure projects and work within a collaborative, supportive environment. Hybrid working arrangements are available.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Producing accurate engineering models, drawings and detailing for highways, bridges, retaining walls, culverts, and related civil structures
  • Preparing both concept and detailed design drawings
  • Acting as project technician on multidisciplinary schemes
  • Reviewing steel fabrication and shop drawings
  • Ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality engineering outputs
  • Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior team members
Key Responsibilities

You will support and deliver highways and transportation projects across the region, with expected input to include:

  • Contributing to the successful delivery of highways and infrastructure projects
  • Preparing detailed design drawings using AutoCAD and related CAD software
  • Developing project plans, specifications, and cost estimates
  • Supporting the planning and design phases of local highway schemes
  • Providing technical advice and practical solutions as part of a project team
About You
  • Minimum HNC qualification in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD is essential, with experience in Civil 3D, Site 3D, PDS, MicroDrainage or InfoDrainage desirable
  • Knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices related to highway and local road network design
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Team player, adaptable, and versatile with a proven ability to deliver to deadlines
  • Desire to continue professional development and build upon existing experience
Essential Requirements
  • HNC (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering and/or EngTech or IEng accreditation with ICE or IStructE
  • At least 4+ years’ experience in drafting and modelling highways, bridges, or civil structures
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, with additional experience in CADS-RC or steel detailing software an advantage
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Highly motivated, detail-focused, and able to work effectively under pressure
  • Strong teamwork ethic and willingness to take responsibility
Desirable Skills
  • 3D modelling experience using AutoCAD or other software
  • Familiarity with Civil 3D, Revit, Navisworks or similar design tools
