Job summary

AMA Admin is seeking Autism Learning Mentors to support pupils in partner SEND schools in Gateshead. You will help children regulate emotions, engage in learning, and participate in a therapeutic curriculum.

You’ll work with teachers, therapists and pastoral teams in a nurturing, structured environment with hours 8:30am–3:30pm, Monday to Friday, and there are permanent opportunities for the right candidates.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children or vulnerable adults.
• Two recent references (work-based or voluntary).
• Enhanced DBS on Update Service, or willingness to apply for one through Milk.

Responsibilities

• Provide tailored support to pupils with Autism within the classroom and wider school environment.
• Implement personalised strategies to support emotional regulation, engagement, and learning.
• Support pupils during therapeutic, outdoor, and Forest School activities.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, SLT, and on-site therapists to deliver consistent support.
• Monitor progress and adapt approaches to meet individual needs.
• Contribute to pastoral care, ensuring pupils feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.
• Communicate effectively with parents and carers, sharing progress and celebrating successes.

We are seeking Autism Learning Mentors to work within our partner SEND schools in Gateshead. This rewarding role focuses on supporting children with Autism and additional SEND needs, helping them regulate emotions, build confidence, and fully engage in their learning journey.

You’ll work closely with teachers, therapists, and pastoral teams to create a nurturing, structured environment where every child feels understood, valued, and empowered to succeed.

Hours: 8:30am - 3:30pm, Monday to Friday (depending on school)

What You Need

• Experience supporting children or vulnerable adults
• The ability to provide two recent references (work-based or voluntary)
• An Enhanced Child & Adult Workforce DBS on the Update Service, OR be willing to apply for one through Milk
