Job summary

Gateshead Council is seeking a qualified teacher to join the Education, Schools and Inclusion Service on a fixed-term contract for 12 months. You will work across schools to support children with SEND, including autism, providing expert advice, assessments and training.

You will act as a specialist contact for educational settings, help raise attainment and collaborate with families and multi-agency partners to promote inclusive practice.

Qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status and successful teaching experience in an educational setting.
• Specialist knowledge of complex social communication needs (including autism).
• Experience assessing, planning, monitoring and reviewing SEND provision.
• Excellent communication, relationship-building and report-writing skills.
• Experience working with families, schools and multi-agency partners.

Responsibilities

• Act as specialist contact for schools, offering expert guidance for children with SEND incl. autism.
• Support schools to maintain high standards of inclusive teaching and learning.
• Undertake specialist assessments and provide written/verbal recommendations.
• Build positive relationships with children, families and professionals in multi-agency framework.
• Identify programmes/resources to improve curriculum access and raise achievement.
• Design and deliver training and professional development for education professionals.
• Provide educational advice for EHC needs assessments and plan reviews.
• Maintain records, monitor outcomes and contribute to service improvement.
• Attend team meetings and stay up to date with safeguarding and legislation.
