Job summary

Milk Education is recruiting for an Autism Learning Mentor at a specialist SEND school in Durham. The role starts on 1st September 2026 and runs long-term, with term-time hours 8:30-3:30 Monday to Friday.

You will support children aged 5-19 with autism, building relationships and delivering personalised learning to help pupils access education and thrive in a calm, inclusive environment.

Qualifications

  • Recent experience supporting children or vulnerable adults
  • Enhanced Child and Adult Workforce DBS or willingness to apply
  • Ability to provide 2 recent employment references

Responsibilities

  • Support children and young people with autism one-to-one and in small groups to access learning in ways that suit their needs and strengths
  • Build positive relationships to promote confidence, independence and emotional wellbeing
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to deliver personalised support and adapt learning activities to reduce barriers to participation and progress
  • Create a calm, structured and inclusive learning environment where every pupil feels valued and able to succeed

Working hours: 8:30-3:30 Monday to Friday (Term-time only)
Salary: £450-£550 per week

We're currently recruiting for an Autism Learning Mentor to join a specialist SEND school in Durham on a long-term basis starting in September. This role is long-term and candidates are invited to apply for any permanent positions available in school during their placement.

You'll be joining a highly supportive SEND school for children and young people aged 5-19, dedicated to reducing barriers to learning and helping every pupil thrive by recognising and building on their individual strengths. The school offers exceptional facilities across its main site, creating engaging learning environments that support pupils academically, socially and emotionally.

  • An Enhanced Child and Adult Workforce DBS or be willing to apply for one
