Job summary

Pertemps Education Network is seeking a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) for a specialist Autism school in Wokingham, Berkshire. This full-time, long-term role starts September 2026 and offers a rewarding opportunity to support pupils with Autism and SEND, working closely with teachers and the SEND team.

You will deliver planned activities, lead small groups, monitor progress, and help create a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications

  • HLTA status or significant HLTA-level experience
  • Experience supporting children or young people with Autism and SEND
  • Excellent behaviour management and communication skills
  • Patient, resilient, and adaptable
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues
  • Confidence in leading learning activities and supporting classroom teaching
  • Genuine passion for helping children reach their full potential

Responsibilities

  • Deliver planned learning activities and interventions
  • Lead small group and whole-class sessions when required
  • Support pupils with Autism and associated communication or sensory needs
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing
  • Assist with planning and preparation of learning resources
  • Monitor and record pupil progress
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, parents and external professionals
  • Help create a safe, inclusive and engaging learning environment
