Job summary

SGS Care Ltd in Sunderland is seeking a Registered Manager for a specialist 5-bed children’s home supporting young people with autism and neurodiversity. You will lead a team of 17 staff to ensure safe, child-centred care and regulatory compliance.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will oversee quality of care, safeguarding, multi-agency planning and health access, with budgeting, governance and Regulation 44/45 responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
• Significant experience in children's residential care, including supervisory experience.
• Within the last 5 years: at least 2 years in a role relevant to children's residential care and at least 1 year supervising/managing staff in a care role.
• Strong safeguarding knowledge and understanding of Children's Homes Regulations (2015).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including understanding different communication needs (including non-verbal communication).
• Competent IT skills (emails, word processing, internet).
• Experience working with families, professionals and multi-agency teams.
• Budget management for the home and young people.

Responsibilities

• Lead the registered manager role and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Safeguard and promote welfare of children, ensuring procedures are followed.
• Deliver a high-quality service to young people, families and placing authorities.
• Lead multi-agency planning including Placement Plans and Health Action Plans.
• Oversee placement plans and care documentation.
• Maintain relationships with families and professionals and support visits.
• Ensure 24-hour structured programme supporting education, wellbeing and independence.
• Oversee health needs and access to GPs and other health professionals.
• Chair and minuting reviews and meet statutory timescales.
• Ensure safe de-escalation and recording of any physical interventions.
• Lead supervision, appraisal, development and manage performance.
• Manage rotas and safe staffing, including on-call cover.
• Recruitment, selection, induction and retention with support from Operations Manager.
• Governance including Regulation 44/45 reviews and quality of care.
• Record keeping, statutory logs, audits and budget oversight.
• Ensure premises safety and liaise with internal teams.
