Audit Senior / Assistant Manager

Location: Huddersfield

Salary: £33,000 - £40,000 DOE

The Opportunity

A well-established Chartered Accountancy practice in Huddersfield is looking to recruit an Audit Senior / Assistant Manager to join its growing Audit and Assurance team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced audit professional looking to take the next step in their career within a supportive and progressive practice.

The successful candidate will work with a varied portfolio of SME clients, taking responsibility for planning and delivering audit assignments while building strong client relationships and supporting the development of junior team members. The role offers genuine opportunities for progression within an established audit department, making it ideal for someone looking to develop their management skills and advance their career.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead audit assignments for a varied portfolio of SME clients, from planning through to completion, with support from Audit Managers and Partners where required.
• Prepare audit files and working papers, ensuring assignments are completed accurately, efficiently and in line with professional and regulatory standards.
• Assist with audit planning, identifying key risk areas and ensuring appropriate audit procedures are carried out.
• Build positive working relationships with clients, acting as a key point of contact throughout the audit process.
• Prepare draft management reports and communicate audit findings to managers for review.
• Supervise, support and review the work of trainees and junior auditors, providing guidance and on-the-job coaching.
• Ensure assignments are delivered within agreed timescales and budgets, escalating any issues where appropriate.
• Identify opportunities to improve audit processes and contribute ideas to enhance client service.
• Support Audit Managers and Partners with ad hoc assignments, technical work and business development activities as required.
• Keep technical knowledge up to date and maintain compliance with current accounting and auditing standards.

About the Successful Candidate

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in external audit within a UK accountancy practice and be looking to further their career within an established and expanding audit department.

They will also demonstrate:

• Practice audit experience is essential.
• Ideally 3+ years' experience working within an Audit and Assurance team.
• ACA or ACCA qualified, part-qualified or qualified by experience will all be considered.
• Strong knowledge of UK audit and accounting standards.
• Experience working with SME clients across a range of sectors.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
• A proactive approach and a genuine desire to develop professionally.
• Experience supervising or mentoring junior team members would be advantageous.
