Job description

Audit Director (corporate mid-market)

Reading - hybrid, flexible hours

Permanent, full-time

Salary negotiable DOE

Influence the direction of a growing practice, deepen your relationships with ambitious privately owned businesses, and position yourself for Partnership. You'll have the autonomy to lead a significant client portfolio while playing a visible role in the growth and success of the wider business.

This role combines technical leadership with genuine commercial influence. You'll work closely with entrepreneurs, private businesses and their stakeholders, acting as a trusted adviser on issues that extend far beyond the annual audit. At the same time, you'll have the opportunity to shape the future of the team through business development, mentoring, and contributing to regional growth strategy.

If you're looking for a firm that values collaboration over hierarchy, gives its senior leaders the freedom to make decisions, and offers a clear pathway towards Partnership, this is an environment where you can make a lasting impact.

What you'll do

You’ll lead a portfolio of privately owned and entrepreneurial businesses, taking overall responsibility for the delivery of high-quality audit engagements while building long-term relationships with clients and their leadership teams. You’ll oversee complex assignments, working closely with Partners where appropriate, and ensure engagements are delivered to the highest technical and commercial standards.

You’ll play an active role in winning new work, strengthening existing client relationships, and identifying opportunities to introduce wider advisory services. You’ll help shape the firm's growth strategy across the region, contributing ideas that enhance client service, expand market presence, and support the continued development of the practice.

As a senior leader, you’ll also be responsible for developing your team, coaching managers and senior managers, identifying future leaders, and creating an environment where people can thrive. Alongside this, you’ll take ownership of the commercial performance of your portfolio, managing profitability, fee growth, and client service with equal focus.

What you’ll need
  • Proven experience operating at Audit Senior Manager or Director level within an accountancy practice
  • RI (Responsible Individual) status, or the ability to obtain it in the immediate future
  • Strong experience working with privately owned, owner-managed and mid-market businesses
  • Excellent technical knowledge of UK audit and financial reporting standards
  • A track record of developing long-term client relationships and winning new business
  • Experience leading, mentoring and developing high-performing audit teams
  • Strong commercial awareness with responsibility for portfolio performance and profitability
  • Ambition to play a significant leadership role and progress towards Partnership
