Blackburn College invites applications for an Attendance, Progress and Academic Skills Coach to champion support for disadvantaged students, removing barriers to progress in a busy college setting. You will mentor students, engage with tutors and support teams, and help deliver personalised study programmes within term-time hours.
The role requires excellent communication and a collaborative approach to student welfare.
Salary £28,273 Pro Rata, Per Annum
Term Time only - 37hrs per week
We are looking to appointan individualwith the skills, knowledge and experience to champion and support the most disadvantaged students by ensuring that all barriers to academic progress are removed.
The role requires you to act, where necessary, in the role of a mentor in terms of supporting high engagementwith all elements of the Study Programme and a positive attitude to learning.
The role complements the work undertaken by other cross-college support teams and will requirea high levelof communication particularly with the Tutor team and the Learning Support and Student Engagement Team.
This role is ideal for anyone who has the desire to make a meaningful impact on the lives of our most disadvantaged young people by ensuring that each has a comprehensive and individualised package of support.
Successful candidates will beallocatedtothe English and MathsDepartment
Youshould have agood standard of general education includinga level 2 qualificationEnglish and maths (or equivalent)andexperience of,oranaspiration towards working with young people (16-19).You will needthe flexibility,enthusiasmand the ability to relate well to staff and studentsand the ability to form andmaintainappropriate relationshipsand personal boundaries with young people.Excellent communication skills, interpersonal and organisationalabilitiesand Experience of working successfully as part of a team are also essential.
