Responsibilities

  • Safeguard all students and follow safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and analyse attendance and punctuality; identify students needing support.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders to target vulnerable student groups or persistent absentees.
  • Liaise with staff and external agencies regarding students of concern; refer as needed.
  • Raise attendance issues with parents and meet with students/parents to address barriers.
  • Lead meetings with the Inclusion Welfare Officer and relevant agencies; prepare legal paperwork when thresholds are met.
  • Support medical needs of students; oversee medicines and maintain records.
  • Stock control of medical resources and first aid equipment.
  • Produce reports on attendance/medical matters as required.
  • Cover colleagues' duties in their absence; uphold confidentiality.
  • Support welfare, safeguarding, health and safety policies; report accidents.
  • Promote the school's ethos and model professional behavior.

Working 36 hours per week, 39 weeks per year (term time)

We have an exciting opportunity for an Attendance Manager, to join the team at Thomas Knyvett College. The successful candidate will be hardworking and committed; able to deal with confidential material with the sensitivity required; qualified to and capable of administering first aid; able to work under pressure and to deadlines.

Key duties include but are not restricted to:
  • To safeguard all students and follow all safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Ongoing monitoring and analysis of attendance and punctuality for all students. Identify students who require support with their attendance and those that have significantly improved for commendation.
  • Working with senior leaders to design and implement strategies to target vulnerable student groups or persistent absentees.
  • Liaise with key members of staff both within the school and outside agencies regarding students of concern, referring as necessary.
  • Raise attendance issues with parents, meeting both students and their parents or carers, in order to understand relevant barriers to consistent attendance, and to support families in improving student attendance.
  • As lead for the school, attend and hold meetings with the Inclusion Welfare Officer and other relevant agencies who can support students in improving attendance to school and to lessons. This may include preparing legal paperwork or penalty notices when statutory thresholds are met. Liaising with members of school staff both prior and on all outcomes.
  • Support the wider team in the occasional delivery of medical support for students:
  • Oversee stocks of medicines for students and individual medical plans, maintaining accurate records of medicines.
  • Record, monitor and administer to the medical needs of students (and staff on occasion), liaising with parents and appropriate agencies.
  • Carry out stock control on medical resources, medications, first aid equipment, health and welfare resources.
  • Produce reports, summaries and all related documentation with regards to attendance/medical as and when required.
  • In the event of absence, covering colleagues work as appropriate.
  • Perform other reasonable duties in line with the school’s job requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality in and outside of the workplace.
  • Be pro-active in matters relating to fulfilling welfare, safeguarding, health and safety policies and procedures as well as reporting/recording accidents as required.
  • Support aims and ethos of the school, setting a good example in terms of dress, behaviour, punctuality and attendance.
Key skills applicable to this role include:
  • Strong literacy and numeracy, typically including GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent in English and Maths.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office. Familiarity with school MIS data systems would be an advantage but training would be provided where necessary.
  • Understanding of national education legislation, safeguarding rules, and statutory attendance frameworks.
  • Ability to handle sensitive family situations with tact, firmness, and professionalism.
