Job summary

An Outstanding Secondary School in Birmingham is seeking an experienced Attendance Officer to start from October 2026. You will monitor attendance and punctuality, work with students and families, and report to pastoral and senior leaders to improve engagement across the school.

The role emphasizes data-driven interventions, liaising with safeguarding teams, and keeping accurate MIS records using Arbor, SIMS or Bromcom. A collaborative team environment is offered.

Qualifications

• Experience in school attendance, pastoral work, education administration or a similar role.
• Able to handle sensitive situations and communicate with families.
• Highly organised, resilient, able to manage workload in a busy school environment.
• Experience with Arbor, SIMS, Bromcom or another school MIS would be beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Monitor daily attendance and punctuality across the school.
• Follow up unexplained and persistent absence with parents and carers.
• Analyse attendance data to identify patterns and emerging concerns.
• Maintain accurate records using the school's MIS.
• Coordinate attendance interventions for individual students.
• Work with pastoral, safeguarding and senior leadership teams.
• Build positive relationships with students and families.
• Attend meetings and contribute to attendance action plans.
• Liaise with external agencies when necessary.
• Help promote a positive culture of attendance.
