Job summary

Dovetail & Slate Ltd is seeking an Attendance and Pastoral Officer to support learners in a Yorkshire and the Humber setting. You will monitor attendance, engage with students to boost engagement and wellbeing, and act as a trusted point of contact for learners needing support to stay on track.

You will work with staff, families and external services to put practical support in place, maintain records, and ensure consistent, positive learner outcomes across the education setting.

Qualifications

• Experience of supporting young people in an education or similar setting.
• Calm, approachable manner and ability to build trust with learners.
• Strong organisational skills and accurate record keeping.
• Good communication with learners, families and colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Monitoring learner attendance and punctuality, following up on absence promptly.
• Identifying learners at risk of disengaging and putting support plans in place.
• Providing pastoral support to learners facing personal or welfare difficulties.
• Working with parents, carers and external agencies to address barriers to attendance.
• Maintaining accurate records of attendance, interventions and outcomes.
• Working with teaching and support staff to ensure learners get consistent support.

About the Role

You’ll join an education provider as an Attendance and Pastoral Officer, working with learners to improve attendance, engagement and wellbeing. You’ll be a visible, approachable point of contact for young people who need support to stay on track with their studies.

You’ll monitor attendance patterns, follow up on absence and put practical support in place where learners are at risk of disengaging, working alongside teaching staff, families and external services.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Monitoring learner attendance and punctuality, and following up on absence promptly.

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

• Experience of supporting young people in an education or similar setting

Desirable (but not essential):

• Experience of attendance monitoring or pastoral casework
• Experience of liaising with external agencies and support services
